Does anyone know how to find conscientious objectors in World War 2, please. There is a little bit out there for WW1 but I haven't found any good results for WW2. I thought they appeared before some kind of panel who judged them so there must be some records somewhere. Thank you in advance

It is likely that many of the records aren't open to the public yet, Libbybeth, as with the records of people who served in WW2, because many of them are still alive.

If you search The National Archives' catalogue, Discovery, (using the advanced search), for the word conscientious, and specify a date range 1939-1945, there are plenty of results but it isn't always clear which of them actually include the names of conscientious objectors and which are more general. It would be worth having a look through, though. And include other archives in your search, not just the National Archives, as their catalogue will then also tell you about records that are held elsewhere, e.g. London Metropolitan Archives, Gloucestershire Archives, etc. Are you looking for information from a particular area?

Oh, and there is mention of some WW2 records included in their guide to researching conscientious objectors:

Think it is Midlands only.
