A contact of mine and a great will transcriber has greatly missed (as I have) the Wills Transcription website which was taken down because of the ill health of the owner.

She has now just launched a new website.

http://wills.digital-ink.co.uk/

I shall be adding wills that I haven't been able to find a home for. The more we upload, the more useful the site will be, so I hope the website takes off.

Thank you Elizabeth.

I uploaded one will but it seems to have teething problems at the moment.
I expect they will have to deal with a few technical issues while they are launching it.

Wonderful. I also really miss the site.

Just to say that there is ongoing work on the site until they see that everything is working properly.

There are 371 wills on the website now, and more being added every time I look.

It will have a new address in time, and I will post it here.

UPDATE

The previous address was a temporary address when the website was being set up. It still works but the official address is now

www.transcribedwills.co.uk

There are now 941 wills uploaded to the site and more being added every day, so keep an eye on it and upload your own wills. It has the potential to be a very useful resource. I am uploading the wills I have transcribed for counties where there is no repository for transcriptions.

I've just uploaded the 1,000th will!

Just a reminder of this website.

http://www.transcribedwills.co.uk/

There are over 2,700 wills so far.
I am trying to upload a few every week.

If you use the search facility, it brings up ALL mentions of the word. So you can search for beneficiaries within wills.

Is there anywhere on the site you can just look through the names of the testators without doing a search?

I don't think so, Merry.

However, you could search a county, or a town, and see what wills come up. That would also bring up wills mentioning that county or town.

Thanks Elizabeth.

Merry, would you like me to e-mail the site owner with any suggestions?

lol I found a will with the surname of some of my ancestors from the next door parish and thought it might well be helpful, BUT it's undated! So, now I have to try and see if I'm connected to someone where I have no idea when they were alive!!!

Ah, forgot it would have a proved date at the bottom!

Oh dear! That's unusual to have no date.
Which county is it? Can you check somewhere to see if there is a date?

The last few lines of the will (which is a PCC one) don't seem to have been transcribed. The date is there on Ancestry.

Phew! Pleased you found the date.
Any chance of any connection to your tree?

I will have to wait for the Oxon PRs to come online!
