Are these mine?

I'm looking for John Steel and his wife Jemima both born 1864 in Edinburgh and their children William b1890 and Jeanie/Jane b1896 who emigrated to Ohio in 1908.

I've found this in the passenger lists but am confused regarding the names, gender, ages and is that a note about them being children?

Reading it says that John is female, married and 44, overwritten the next name is Jemima I think also 44 and female and single, next one seems to be Jeanie but age 43 male and married occupupation baker (the only one with an occupation) and then William 16 and male???

Do you think someone got confused on the passenger list and it is my family?

It looks as though they were originally written in the order J (female, 44), Jane (female, 11), John (male, 43), William (male, 16) and the names were "corrected" so it would go John, Jemima, Jane, William, i.e. man, wife, then the children, but they didn't go to the bother of switching all the information around to the right line, so apart from William, each person's information is on the wrong line.

(The bit that is written over the margin is wife, children.)

So yes, it does look like the same family that is on the census.

Note the address given (on the passenger list) for their nearest relative in Scotland - 25 Prince Albert Buildings, Edinburgh. Is that address associated with your family?

Not that I know of Kite - but Edinburgh certainly.

On the passenger list, the nearest relative at the address in Edinburgh is Mrs Steel.

Unfortunately I don't know who that is - I can't find John's mother after 1881 and I don' think he has a brother.
