I do feel disappointed that they haven't managed to index these by name - makes me wonder just how much longer we have to wait for the countrywide electoral registers we were promised years ago? I assumed the delay with those was indexing them, but if they are prepared to release the Manchester ones without indexing them, why not the national ones? Also, maybe I'm just in a bad mood today or something, but it seems wrong for their "Findmypast Fridays" blog to be headed "New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday" when the main collection this week cannot be searched, only browsed.

I quite agree.

Just started looking, and I see pages 56 and 57 are missing in Collegiate Church ward, Manchester for 1861-62.

There's an explanation of the Manchester Citizens' Rolls here:

It's quite frustrating when you don't know where people were living at the time you are looking for.

I have found OH's 3g grandmother's first husband, which helps narrow down when OH's 3g grandparents may have married.

Does it include Salford?
I desperately need 1901 onwards to ascertain when ggf disappeared. They are a couple in 1901 in Burnley but she's on her own in 1911 in Salford though states married and a widow in 1915.

Thanks Kite - hopefully it'll progress to 1911.

Seems its only Burgesses for Salford and Broughton

Back in the 1850s and 1860s did you have to own a property to vote?

Not sure if OHs relatives owned propeerty or not and not sure where to look for them. Hard to motivate myself to keep looking.

Yes, you had to own or rent a property above a certain value.
