I have viewed the online image of Patrick Hyland and Anne Molloy's marriage 23/02/1868 on the NLI site. This gives only the couple's names and the names of the witnesses.

This is the same information as the IFHF transcript I bought some years ago.

Family Search has a transcript of the marriage online from its "Ireland Marriages, 1619-1898" database. This gives the names of the fathers of bride and groom and the fact that both bride and groom are single.

None of the marriages I have looked at so far on the NLI site have shown fathers' names, so I am wondering if the registers filmed by the NLI are actually summaries submitted to the diocese by the various parish priests.

Does anyone know if this is the case please? And, if so, are more detailed registers available anywhere?

The FamilySearch film number for that entry, 101523, is listed in their catalogue as follows:

Marriage records, 1845-1870, with indexes to marriages, 1845-1921, in the General Registry Office of Ireland

Author: Ireland. General Register Office; Ireland. General Register Office; Ireland. Custom House

So it is the information that you would get from the GROI marriage cert.

Thanks Kate. You can tell it's a long time since I've used Family Search - didn't even think to look up the listing in the catalogue. (*blushes*)

What a shame the details weren't recorded in the parish registers!

This has led me to realise that I don't know if a Registrar had to be present for Catholic marriages in Ireland in 1868. I couldn't get a quick answer via google so will have to do some proper searching.
