Could a Delver be the same as a Mason on a marriage certificate?

Have a Jane Robinson born 1834 Stanningley, Yorks who says her father is James Robinson a Mason on each of her 3 marriages.

Only one I can find is a Delver in 1841 and his widow as a Delver's widow in 1851

googled it and found this info but found a Delver could work in a quarry but no mention of that in this link below.

It could be a local dialect expression that has died out.

I have one who was a "delpher" - he cut stone in a quarry.

I would think it's the same thing but bigged up for the marriage.

I have a "delphsman, who died in a stone delph". Delph is another name for a quarry and a stone cutter workd in a delph or quarry.

Phew!

Thanks everyone.

Think that she exaggerated for her marriages as he was deceased for all of them.

I think OC's posts show that it's an expression local to an area.
