I don't know if this is a dumb question, but what's the story behind the PCC registers having names? eg:

I've been helping vita with her Trenley research, but searching the TNA brings up lots of (unwanted) matches because one of the PCC will registers is called Trenley.

I'm just nosy to know why!

Oh yes, thanks Elizabeth....this bit - perfect!:

Each PCC Register was originally known by a name, sometimes named after the surname of the first testator whose will is registered in the volume, and sometimes after the clerk whose register year it was.

I was going to copy and paste that part, Merry, but didn't as I was trying to get breakfast/put on the washing!

One of my ancestors actually has a register named after him.
