From the Roll of Edinburgh Burgesses:
Burgess of Edinburgh by right of wife Mary, daughter to James Burtoun, tailor, B. 10 Aug 1726.

Going by the names of William and Mary's children, William's parents could possibly be named William or James, and Mary.

William must have died before Mary as she is his "relict" on her burial. She died July 1761. Not the William Archibald who died Oct 1752 as that one was age 1 year (grandson of this William.) Nor the one who died May 1759 as he was a child, son of Thomas. William's son William jr got married 2 Feb 1755 and it doesn't say deceased for his father although it does for the bride's father, so I would think that William sr was still alive then.
There is a burial 3 Aug 1779 Willm Archbald Tanner in Portsburgh lyes 1 f E from Brunters Stone age 85 old age. But this doesn't fit with Mary being his relict in 1761. Unless it is a mistake on her burial record.
