Hi, can anyone help me clarify if Annie M. P Wilson is indeed my Annie.

Annie M.P Wilson - spinster
Born abt 1857 - Stornoway, Scotland
Age at death 81
Death Sunderland
September 1938
Interred Northumbria
V10 page 496

Annie may have been visiting relatives either the Maxwell or Archibald families. I have searched unsuccessfully, so I really hope this is the correct record.

Many thanks,
Ann

Do you know her middle names? The death is for Annie Mary Percival Wilson.

Me again Merry, was Highfield the hospital or workhouse?? I'm also struggling with finding the death of Annie's sister Christian or Christiana or even Christina!! I know she was living in Middlesbrough until at least October 1931. (Electoral roll). I've found nothing in Middlesbrough to relate to a death for Christiana only a death in Sunderland
:Christiana Wilson
Abt 1855
September 1946
V1a page 778
Interred Northumberland
Spinster
Age at death 91 (had a brother who reached the grand old age of 90)
checked family graves and burial records in Middlesbrough - nothing

Many thanks,
Ann

Highfield, Hylton Road, Sunderland, began life as the Sunderland Poor Law Institution, which opened in 1897. So yes, it was the workhouse. It's important to remember that workhouses had medical wards and were often the only place where many people could access healthcare before the NHS came into being.

In 1930, it was renamed the Highfield Institution and Municipal Hospital which then went on the become Sunderland General Hospital.

Some info here:

Me again Merry, was Highfield the hospital or workhouse??

I re-read the probate entry and noticed Highfield was where she died, but her home address was 29 Garcia Terrace, Sunderland.

My apologies!

Ann, I'm a bit confused by the above. Are you saying the person who died in 1946 may have been your Christiana, yet you know that person was interred in Northumberland? How do you know that? Or are you saying you know your Christiana was interred in Northumberland but you don't know when? You also know the Sunderland death was for a spinster, or are you just telling me your Christiana was a spinster? *goes for a lie down* lol

These are all the Christi* Wilson deaths in Eng/Wales after 1930 where the person was born 1855+/-2years:

1) Christian J Wilson abt 1854 Sep 1935 Saddleworth Yorkshire West Riding

2) Christina Wilson abt 1854 Jun 1949 Blackburn Lancashire

3) Christiana G Wilson abt 1855 Sep 1940 Kettering Northamptonshire

4) Christina Wilson abt 1855 Sep 1946 Sunderland Northumberland

5) Christina Wilson abt 1856 Sep 1937 Easington Durham

1) wrote a will and is a widow

2) ditto

3) no probate entry

4) no probate entry

5) no probate entry

If yours didn't have a middle name then that brings the likely entries down to 4) or 5).

Merry, sorry for the confusion! It is a probable death that I had looked at for Christi?? I have checked again in the cencus records and the electoral rolls no evidence of a middle name. Ann

I've looked at newspaper death notices for 1946 and 1937 (numbers 4) and 5) on my list) but there was nothing for either of those two. I guess the Sunderland death is more likely, geographically!

Thank you Merry, for all your help. I will send for the death certificate of the Sunderland one. Ann
