I have a genealogy for the Buckley family in which it says that the will of John Buckley of Grascroft, yeoman, was dated 13th July 1693 and was proved on 9th May 1702.

I have looked at Cheshire and PCC but can't find it. Can anyone spot it for me, please?

I've found this on ancestry:

http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=ukprobate&MS_AdvCB=1&rank=1&new=1&MSAV=2&msT=1&gss=angs-d&gsfn_x=XO&gsln_x=XO&msydy=1702&msydy_x=1&gskw=gr*s*cr*ft&gskw_x=1&cpxt=1&catBucket=rstp&uidh=vm5&msydp=2&cp=11&pcat=36&fh=1&h=1522035&recoff=&ml_rpos=2

If only Findmypast would let me search the whole site by keyword.

Edit - can't find it on FMP or on the Cheshire Archives wills database.

It's listed on the Lancs will search site, which gives the reference to the LDS film number:

Have you seen the extract from the will here?

Search for "John Buckley of Grascroft, 1702".

I'm guessing you may have that already.

I found this as well, in case you hadn't seen it:

Thanks, Kate and Mary. I had looked at Cheshire, Yorkshire and PCC wills and forgot about Lancashire!

Mary, I have downloaded the Buckley genealogy and now I know it is OH's family after proving that John Buckley, the great-grandson of the John of the will, had a daughter Hannah who married John Newton, and that Hannah's Newton children are named in their grandfather's will, I might order a paper copy.

Thanks for the second link - I hadn't seen that.
By the way, I got the details about the 1702 will from the genealogy. It doesn't always give vital details such as where a will is proved or where someone is buried!

Now for a silly question - how do I order the will?

I have been going round in circles.

I think you have to contact Lancashire Archives and ask them for a price quote first.

I think your best bet might be to e-mail Chester Record Office, because the Lancs wills site seems to indicate that it was proved at the Chester Consistory Court in the Supra series, but it doesn't show up in the Chester index on FMP.

If they can't find it, you could try ordering FHL British Film 88614 to view at your nearest LDS centre:

Thanks again, Kate and Mary. I have contacted Cheshire Archives because I also spotted that it was proved at Chester. I'm not sure why it isn't on the Chester index on FMP.

I'll wait for a reply because they should be able to locate it.
