This William Adams is more shadowy than the other William Adams, grandfather of Petronel Adams (and since they have the same name, they cannot be any closer than first cousins)

Married Joan Adams 11 February 1724, Malborough, Devon

Their daughter Joan was born in 1726

William Adams of Batson, Malborough was buried 14 April 1729.

Daughter Joan was of Batson Hall when she died, but I am unclear as to whether Batson was a single building, or a hamlet.

It is listed as a hamlet on "A Vision of Britain Through Time" quoting from an 1870 gazeteer:

Thanks, Kite.

The many William Adams who lived in Malborough at this period are differentiated by where they live. There is William Adams senior of Coombe, William Adams junior of Coombe, but of course life starts to get more complicated when William senior dies. Then William junior morphs into William senior. Unfortunately, he then moves.... and becomes William Adams of the town.

I usually end with a wet towel round my head as I try to sort them all out.
