In 1911 I've lost:

William Henri Bruce, born 1897 Upton Park, Essex
Leonard Alexander Bruce, born 1901 Upton Park, Essex

Both parents died in 1910. The boys were part of a large extended family, but I can't seem to find them, nor can I find a death for them.

If anyone has a few minutes to search in case I've missed something obvious. I'd be grateful. If the family hasn't taken them in, I presume they are in an orphanage ....... somewhere?

PS There is a William Henry Bruce born 1898 Upton Park on 1911 census. That is not the missing William. It took me ages to work that out! :(
PPS Upton Park could also be listed as West Ham (as all football fans will know!)

Thank you all

There is a public tree on ancestry showing Leonard as the one who died in Stepney in 1951 but it looks as though they just got that from the GRO index without checking that it is the right person.

Edit - never mind, that tree isn't even for the right family.

Thanks Kite, I saw that one too.
I've gone off in so many wrong directions here, it's driven me mad.

There's this one:

William Henri Bruce, an 18-year-old stable boy, born in London and living in Balham.

EDIT: No - that one was born in Clapham. Thought he may have fibbed about his age at first.

I've not looked at all the pages yet, but these are the army papers of William Henri Bruce. His next of kin is his brother, Leonard Alexander, noted on the third page.

I have spent hours on those two guys and God knows why I couldn't see them. :o I had this feeling I had got to the "can't see for looking" stage.

Ladies, you are brilliant! I could kiss you! ;)

Thank you so much. At least I know Lost Leonard didn't die.
