Thankyou kiterunner!

Only just seen your reply and funnily enough my son has just given me the Oxford FHS cd for Abingdon for my birthday, have just looked it up on there they married at St Helen same date as the licence, I'd got it to untangle my Badcocks little suspecting to find other ancestors. (They've called him Aries)

Ayers was the executor of his father's will (https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/61333/images/47286_p1_s_975_a1_tcl?pId=140045)in 1732, which also helps pinpoint his father's burial which was 1731 not 1738 which everyone including me thought. It also names his mother as Elizabeth, and four siblings.
