Hi Margaret,
At that time he was in Liverpool, he was a post office boy from age 14 then he was a painter and plumber when he married (to my gran) until his death, thats as much as i know, thanks for looking :)

Hi Mo
His jacket's interesting ~ enlarged, it doesn't quite look like wool, more like a Moleskin or Suede of some kind, especially with that edging.

Don't know if you can tell better from the original ?
Any idea what he did for a living ?

If you could come up with a better scan sometime, then the badge ought to show up in more detail.
The pic's too pixellated when enlarged to see it properly

Hi Rachel,
On the 1891 Census aged 14 he was an office boy (post), on marriage certificate 1897 he was a seaman, 1901 Census he was a painter, 1911 House Painter, army records say's own plumbing business, 2nd marriage 1918 he's a Painter Journeyman.
I had also heard from an older relative some years ago that he worked as a sanitary inspector for Liverpool corporation, but i really dont know for sure.

I also scanned the pic at 600dpi and 1200dpi but it looks no different to me, and i cant see anything on the badge that would give me a clue.
Thanks Rachel.

Mo
Please can you put the 600dpi scan on here and remember to have your Photobucket file size set to the maximum (that's 1 MB for the free account)

Oops thats a bit techy Rachel, how do i do that lol

Rachel

Open Photobucket and go to 'my albums'

Go to the bit on the right ~ where it says 'upload images & videos'

There should be something saying '(more options)' ~ click on that and you will get this

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o228/rachelscand/Picture1-4.png

Click on '1 megabyte file size'

(or 2 megabyte if you have the other account)

Then 'Save'

When you've done that, go back to 'my albums' and upload your pic

WOW !!!!!
That's fantastic and just look at his badge thingie :D:D

It really shows up well

NOOOOOOOOO def not too big ~ perfect :)

OMG, is that a chewed thumb nail ?

I hope everyone will take note of the detail that can be seen with a decent scan and no nasty pixellation

I think the badge might be a watch fob, there is a few on the internet from those days, that look very similar,
Thanks Rachel

Can i trouble you ladies again with another pic please, its quite grotty though.
The original photo is only 2" by 2 and a half ", the ladies in the front are my gran and g-gran, my goodness the g-gran looks scary lol, and how my poor gran looks, she was quite pretty in the photo you did a little while ago for me Rachel, then again she did bear eleven kids by the rogue George.
Hope you dont mind.

You can even see the pattern on the right side, behind him (on the backdrop) and his hair.

Will do a fresh restore at some point but am busy at the moment.

Go on Wendy ~ you haven't done him yet :)

Hi Mo
Hope life is up and running again :)
I've not done many restores recently and it's amazing how out of practice you can get in just a short while.

If you fancy different colours do say ... messing around with colours is always fun ;)
