I was looking in vain for a will for William Tupper, but found this:

First name(s) Richard
Last name Tupper
Entry year 1723
Place Graffham
Original text Graffham, Sussex

County Sussex
Country England
Document type Registered will
Archive reference STC I/33/152

Is this his father?

That's great - you can order it from West Sussex RO.

I can ? I cannot find any reference to wills of Chichester Consistory Court on their website, not any reference to Richard Tupper. Do I just email and ask ? I have never had to order wills this old before.

I search for wills on Find My Past.
http://search.findmypast.co.uk/search-world-Records/sussex-chichester-consistory-court-wills-index-1482-1800

If finding the collection for the first time click on "A-Z of record sets" in the top right-hand corner, then start typing "Chichester" into the search box.

This is the e-mail address for West Sussex RO:

[email protected]

Copy and paste the information I gave you and ask them how much the will would cost. They will reply with a price and send you an attachment with a form to fill in. They will also tell you how to pay.

If you have other wills to buy it's worth doing them in batches. I have been getting 5 wills at a time, usually just £8. Very good value.

Their service is usually pretty prompt. They will answer any queries too.

The book 'Calendar of Wills in the Consistory Court of the Bishop of Chichester 1482-1800' is available to view online

- there are quite a few Philp of Graffham Wills listed -

Thanks Elizabeth, I wish there was some explanation on the website. I hate having to send an email asking when there is a form that should have been filled in, but its not obvious.

Thank you Sussex Maid, thats very useful I can see lots I could get - I might just start with Richard Tupper and Maurice Boxall. I will have to do some more work on the Philps to see if any of theirs could be useful.
