There is a John Miller baptised at Wirksworth 16 Jun 1723, son of John Miller. (Listed as Johannus on FamilySearch.)

Possibility, hadn't thought of Miller.

There is a John Mellor buried at Brassington, 1 May 1795, age 81 (also from FamilySearch.)
And there is a George Mellor, son of John and Mary, buried there in 1759. FamilySearch doesn't give his age at death.
There are some children of John Mellor and Martha baptised at Brassington: Ales 18 Oct 1747, Robert 3 Jan 1754, Hannah 24 Oct 1756, George 8 Apr 1759, so I wonder whether the mother's name on the burial transcription is wrong. Also the baptism of a Jane Meller 5 Feb 1764, parents John and Martha.

There is a John Mellor marriage to a Martha Wain in 1745 at Alfreton, again on FamilySearch. But it doesn't give the exact marriage date so I don't know whether it is before your Mary's baptism.

Thanks Kate, I'll look into that.

The baptisms look ok. I must check the Wirksworth database.

I'm doubtful about the marriage as Alfreton is a lot further away from Brassington and Wirksworth.

Find My Past, Derbyshire Burials gives the marriage of John Mellor and Martha Waine at Alfreton as 7 July 1745.

Still not sure about it though. I suppose Martha could have been from Alfreton.

EDIT

It is the correct one. I've just realised that on FMP it gives the residence as Brassington

John Mellor buried in Brassington 1 May 1795 aged 81 so going on a date of birth c 1714

FMP Derbyshire baptisms have a John Mellor, father Ralph baptised at Holy Trinity, Kirk Ireton, Derbyshire on 9 July 1713.

Kirk Ireton is about 6 miles from Brassington.

Don't know whether you already have a note of this, Marg, but on the Wirksworth parish register site, it says Alderwasley for the place of abode on Mary's 1745 baptism.

Yes I do Kate. That is very very close to Wirksworth.
