at some point between 1878 and 1885, probably with his wife Eliza. In 1885, he was in Brisbane.

Please would someone be kind enough to look for his passage. He was born in 1851, Manchester and Eliza was born in 1856.

Thankyou!

I've found one possibility on Ancestry; unfortunately there are no images.

George Bell aged 27 and Eliza Bell aged 21 both travelled on the Nairnshire from Greenock, and arrived in Brisbane on 24th June 1878.
No other information in the index.

Just checking the Qld archives site to see if I can get the image of the passenger list to come up, but it isn't responding at the moment.

OK, got the image. There's no other information apart from the fact that they're both married (not necessarily to each other, but there don't seem to be any other Bells on the same list), and they travelled on a free passage, departing 21st March 1878.

I can send you a copy of the list if you're interested.

This newspaper cutting describes the cargo the ship was carrying.

Had you seen this missing persons ad for George Bell from West Gorton?

Thankyou very much for that, Mary. George and Eliza married on 25 Feb 1878, so it does seem likely to be them.

Not sure about the West Gorton one. I think George's whereabouts were known by his family as he is named in his father's will of 1885.
