View Full Version : William Samuel Stone
Can someone please have a look at the 1910 US census on Ancestry for this man?
FMP has William S Stone b England 1871 and married with no wife there, living in Oakland Ward 4 Alameda California, but it appears to have the wrong image loaded against it. Hopefully Ancestry has the right image and I can get some more information!
With him is Ada Stone b c1888 England single.
The Head is Edgar F Gee b 1864 England.
The William Samuel Stone that I want is a clergyman who is supposed to be dead in the 1906 California earthquake. Is this the same man or someone else??
Thanks
It's the correct image on Ancestry.
Edgar Gee, head, white, 46, single, clergyman, b England, mother and father b England, immigration year 1885, naturalised
William S Stone, lodger, white, 39, clergyman, married, b England, mother and father b England, immigration year 1906, alien
Ada Stone, lodger, white, 22, single, b England, parents b England, immigration year 1906
Mary Pinkerton, lodger, white, 70, married, b New York, father b Mass, mother b New York
Yes! Thank you so much. He obviously did not die in 1906! :d
I wonder who Ada was, I cannot find him a sister called Ada.
He does have a wife and child in England in 1911. I have found what looks like his USA naturalisation papers in 1913, so it looks like he stayed in the USA.
Someone was searching for him in 2005. They said he went from Tasmania to US (Chicago) in 1906 and that he died in 1949. Someone else found this death reg:
State of IL death index
STONE WILLIAM S M/W Y-79 Cert # 6027295 died 1949-09-21 COOK Co.
Thanks Merry. I will look through some more US census and see if his wife ever caught up with him again!
Could you also look to see if she died/remarried in Eng/Wales and/or the same for their child?

I wonder if his wife was still around at the start of women's suffrage and appears on an electoral roll somewhere. Don't forget Scotland or possibly an outgoing passenger list.
He does not seem obviously on US census with his wife and child, and he is not really obvious either. He may have morphed into a teacher, but I cannot be certain it is really him.
At least I have disproved the died in the earthquake theory. I will see if I can find what happened to his wife and child when I get home tonight.
