View Full Version : Nathaniel Lanning born Cork 1811
There are plenty of Nathaniel Lannings in Kington Magna Dorset, at least in the late 1600s early 1700s.
So can there be any connection with a Nathaniel Lanning b Cork, bricklayer who was in Clerkenwell from at least 1841?
Can only find him in 1861 so far.
I have a few of my Dorset labourers born in Ireland because of army service.
There's a John Lanning b abt 1786 from Kinton, Shaftesbury who was discharged from the army in 1818 after a number of years (just forgotten the number lol, but was in the teens), but I would need a bigger screen to read the writing on his service papers! (fmp)
There are a few service papers for other Lannings born in Ireland though, so maybe there was a branch already established there?
I see William Lanning, Nat's son, was married as a widower in 1892 at which time he said his father was dec'd, but there doesn't seem to be an obvious death for Nathan(iel).
There's also this family on the Welsh 1851 census all born in Cork who could be connected.
John Laning 51
Ellen Laning 50
Mary Laning 19
Thomas Laning 12
Susannah Laning 9
If you search L*ning etc b Ireland 1808 +/-10 years there are quite a few!
Thank you, Merry!
Must investigate that John - he sounds promising!
Lanning get mangled innumerable ways - Lunnary is a favourite! - so they do tend to hide quite successfully.
That John must be the son of Robert & Mary bp 7 March 1787 in KM.
