View Full Version : Grandchildren?
In his Will of 1713, is it likely that Thomas Brooks would refer to his great-grandchildren as his grandchildren?
I wouldn't like to say what the probability was, but it is certainly entirely possible. I have relations in a slightly earlier period using cousin to refer to grandchildren.

That's quite a stretch!
I'm pretty sure they are his great-grandchildren but never having found any in previous Wills I thought I'd check.
I don't think they were so particular in describing relationships as we might be, especially if everyone knew who they were referring to.

My great great aunt Emily died unmarried in 1972 and left money to her nieces and nephews. In fact, most of them were great nieces and nephews and I was her great great niece! As Phoenix says, as long as they were named then the legal relationship doesn't actually matter.

Except to us!
Thanks all for setting my mind at rest.
