Although I'm looking at entries for the early 1600s I haven't had much trouble with them. However, I'd be curious to know what others make of the bride's name.

It's 29 April 1628 and she is marrying John Battishill. Her surname is Hake.

I think I know what it is but would like confirmation.

It looks like Anisiam but I don't know what that would be in English. Possibly Agnes? Except there are some entries on the page with name given as Agnes.

Amilia?

Thanks, Kate and Sue.

I got Anisiam as will so wondered if her English name was Annis? It's usually spelled with a double n.

I was just thinking the same, Elizabeth.

Good! :D

Sorry - I have another girl's name from the same registers:

http://search.findmypast.co.uk/record/browse?id=gbprs%2fply%2f004635173%2f00077

It's the 13th Feb 1613, daughter of Richard Hak(e).
The writing is quite clear but it's an odd name.

The same name is also on the previous page, slightly different spelling:

http://search.findmypast.co.uk/record/browse?id=gbprs%2fply%2f004635173%2f00076

It's a burial (Sep) 26th November

The second one clearly looks like Orrenge. May be an old spelling of orange and given to a child with red hair?!

Thanks, Catfordcrooner. That's what I thought too but it is just another of the rather odd names that I have encountered in Devon and Cornwall.

Thanks, Merry. I didn't know any of that!

Oh dear! I seem to be having to ask lots of questions today.

I have found a marriage which is probably that of my 10x-great-grandparents, but again the bride's name is a problem.

It is the second entry on the page and she is marrying Christopher Boger.

All I can think of is Lily but I'm not so sure...

Looks like Ely. I would have said Elz short for Elizabeth but it doesn't match the z in Elizab a few lines later.

Oh, or maybe Evy? Or Ivy? Those old style v's always catch me out.

Kate, it could be Ivy. I haven't heard of it that early. I always associate it with the Victorian penchant for girls' names taken from flowers/plants.
