I am looking for info on George Watts.
On George his sons marriage cert it states that the fathers occupation is letter carrier in Newport Wales.
I have British Postal Appointment ref that he started 21/12/1852.
I can find no other info on him.
His son George was born in Newport and lived there all his life.
Any info on George senior would be great or any suggestions.
thanks

Kelvin, could you please give us some more information? Who did George junior marry, and have you found them on any censuses?

I was trying to work out which Newport you are referring to, but.......

If it's Newport in Monmouthshire, I can't see any Watts marrying there in 1846.

if it's the one in Pembrokeshire, I can't see a marriage for a George Watts, just a Phoebe Watts.

I've not got anywhere with the census either :o

So this looks like the son and he was born at Bedminster, Bristol:

Yes, it says Bristol in 1851 too (with father George!)

In later life he said he was b in Newport.

So this is the family from 1851 on the 1861 census and George sr is a letter carrier to prove it is the right family:

If George sr died before George jr married in 1865 then his death is likely to be the one registered Jan-Mar 1865 Newport, Monmouthshire. This was before age at death was added to the GRO index.

Some baptisms from my Bristol CD:

William Watts baptised 30 Oct 1825 St James, Bristol, parents George and Charity.
Joseph Watts baptised 9 Aug 1829 St James, Bristol, parents George and Charity.
William George Watts baptised 30 Mar 1834 St James, Bristol, parents George and Charity, date of birth 26 Mar 1833.
Mary Ann Watts baptised 5 Mar 1837 St James, Bristol, parents George and Charity, date of birth 22 Apr 1836.

And from the marriages CD:
George Watts, bachelor, married Charity Southcombe, spinster, 30 Nov 1823 at Holy Trinity, Stapleton, Bristol.

I wonder whether Robert Southcomb on the 1841 census is Charity's father?

If you are referring to 1851 then yes, George senr was recorded as a bootmaker. As Kiterunner mentioned above, in 1861 the same man (same wife ad children etc) is a letter carrier.
