I am looking for the Birth Cert details to order certificate for Aaron Shaw.
Aaron Shaw was a traverler sometimes with the Chipperfield Circus. He went on to become the ShowMan of the Circus. He became younger with each Census, the earliest Census I have 1861, give his birth, as 1844.
Mother is Anis (could be Ann Anne or even Alice) born Cottered Hertfordshire c1814 a Widow (1861 Census).
You may look at my public tree on Ancestry.co.uk named PRING
Would be greatful for any info.

Regards Chas

Aaron's marital status on this census looks like Unm to me and it is dittoed for Moses, Jessie and Naomi whereas brother Edward just above Aaron is shown as Mar:

She is down as a stepdaughter of Moses Smith and her sisters also have the surname Shaw, so I don't think she was using it as a married name at that point but it was actually her maiden name (confirmed by that birth cert you mentioned where she is Sarah Shaw formerly Shaw):
In a tent, Plaistow, Essex
Moses Smith Head Mar 46 Travelling Worker ??? New Hampton
Sophia " Wife " 50 Beds Luton
Louisa Shaw Stepdaur Unm 23 Oxon Warbro(?)

I can't see a likely birth registration for Aaron. Registration wasn't compulsory at the time when he was born, and it is likely that his family moved around a lot, so the registrar may not have managed to visit them in time to get them to register the birth.

Looking at his brothers and sisters, there is a possible birth reg for Naomi in Northamptonshire though not the town of Northampton:

Births Oct-Dec 1852
Shaw Naomi Brixworth 3b 104

Ooh, this has to be Anis's baptism, don't you think?! (From FamilySearch):

Annis Shaw baptised 24 Jan 1813 Cottered, Hertfordshire, parents Jasper and Sarah.

I bet that Sophia is the same one who later married Moses Smith, making your Aaron and Sarah first cousins.

I have been looking at births that have been registered Male Shaw and there is one born 1844 in Cambridge which is only 17 miles from Saffron Walden and maybe the next stop on the Fair's round. I still can't find them in 1851, if we do then the next 5 Census records will show the rest of the family. I mean uncles Aunts they must all been traverling with the Fair. They were a true Romany family, I am told that they had the Romany horse drawn carrages. I think you are correct and Aaron and Sarah were not married in 1871.

They might not be listed on the 1841 and 1851 censuses, Chas. I had a look earlier on but couldn't find them. It could be that they moved on before the enumerator arrived to collect / fill in the forms and nobody nearby knew their details.

Thank you for all replies, I am waiting for Naomi's Birth Cert which should be here this week and may get me on a bit further.
This family may not have been in favour of the Cenesus list but I do know that every child born would have been Baptised in a Church somewhere even if it was not expected to live.
All the Best Chas

Kate posted the baptism for Anis earlier. Here are some more children for Jasper and Sarah:

James Shaw 23 Nov 1806 Sandon, Hertford, England Jasper, Sarah

Lucy Shaw 19 Nov 1809 Little Shelford, Cambridge, England Jasper, Sarah

Annis Shaw 24 Jan 1813 Cottered, Hertford, England Jasper, Sarah

Sophia Shaw 12 Sep 1819 Stotfold, Bedford, England, Jasper, Sarah

Sydney Shaw 10 Feb 1822 Tempsford, Bedford, England Jasper, Sarah

Lawrance Shaw 29 Jun 1828 Layston, Hertford, England Jasper, Sarah (he's next door to Anis in 1861)

Also a marriage for Sydney:

Name: Sidney Shaw
Spouse's Name: Susannah Millyn Smith
Event Date: 18 Jul 1847
Event Place: Cambridge, Cambridge, England
Father's Name: Jasper Shaw
Spouse's Father's Name: John Smith
Marital Status: Single
Spouse's Marital Status: Single

All the above are from Family Search.

I noted Sophia's baptism at Stotfold in Bedfordshire as I'd already seen this burial transcript on FMP (Nat Burial Index) and wondered if it was their father:

First name(s) JASPER
Last name SHAW
Birth year 1781
Death year 1841
Age 60
Burial year 1841
Burial day 11
Burial month 8
Place STOTFOLD
Church description ST MARY THE VIRGIN

Annoyingly, I couldn't find him on the 1841 census to check his occupation. Of course this burial may be a complete red herring!

I looked for a marriage for Jasper and Sarah and saw that a couple of ancestry trees have the marriage at Orwell in Cambs in 1800. However, the Joiner Marriage Index and a transcript completed by Rev Whiston rector of Orwell in the early 20thC both have the groom as Jesse:

Jesse Shaw of Orwell, and Sarah Smith of Orwell, December 28, 1800

I was looking for a baptism for Noah in Great Barford, but didn't find one. I did find this, which may or may not turn out to be connected to an earlier generation!

Many thanks, I've entered all your data and matched it with some records in my Public "Pring" tree on Ancestry.
I have had a look at Elijah Aaron and Priscilla but not knowing Aaron's parents I can't make the connection. There has to be a good chance its's Aaron's Grand parents and Elijah an Uncle.
Looks like Annis named most of her children after her siblings.

Oooh, here's a coincidence!

I see from Googling that many have Jasper Shaw (1781 - 1841) as the son of Moses and Susanna and bap at Whittlesford, Cambs in 1781.

I found this:

which was written by the brother of my great-grandfather!

I already knew George N Maynard and his father (my 2xg) had both written about their village and some local personalities, and that some were gypsies, but I hadn't remembered the name Shaw. The minute I saw a couple had been baptised at Whittlesford I knew I'd find something! lol

WOW This is bril, Thankyou.
I can tell you that the decendents of Moses Shaw still have all the street smarts and are good singers, some famous cockney singers are decended from this line.
