Have you seen her parents and siblings on the 1867 Mecklenburg-Schwerin census, Sally? Emma isn't with them, but there is a separate page with Emma David born 1846 and also Rudolf born 1842 and Adolf born 1854 - would that be her and two brothers?
Hi Kate - yes. those are indeed her brothers and Rudolf came over to England at roughly the same time as Emma, only he settled in London rather than Leeds.
This could be them on 1911 census:

Son Albert there too.
Perhaps the rest of the family were abroad in 1901 as I cannot find them on UK census.
Cannot find them on 1871 so probably married in Germany. Have looked on IGI but cannot see a marriage there.
I found a Heimann Rudolph Josephy
Gender: Male Birth: 18 JUL 1847 Goldberg, , Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany Parents Marcus Josephy and Johanna Hinrichsen
Youngest son Hermann was born Leeds 1873 so looks like they emigrated to England 1871-1873
Thank you very much Katarzyna; Yes, I have all of that information but I really appreciate your efforts, and just think ..... the next person that you go to so much trouble for may not have the details that you find.
I too think that Henry (Heinrich) married Emma in Germany but have yet to find the proof.
Albert (oh dear, Great Uncle Albert.........he was a nightmare of a man!) was the son of Henry, and I have no idea why he was shown as a servant on that census, other than of course the fact that he worked for Henry in the Textile industry.
