I have these baptisms from Ancestry:

George Burchall 26 Dec 1784 Bitton, Gloucester, father George, mother Betty

Ann Burchall 26 Dec 1784 Bitton, Gloucester, father George, mother Betty

William Burchall 8 Jan 1786 Bitton, Gloucester, father George, mother Betty

I found this site:

http://www.bittonfamilies.com/Bitton.html

which has transcriptions of the PRs with some gaps. However, the dates above fit into this section:

Christenings/Baptisms
1670 to 1779
Selected names extracted as well as a few random names

1779 to 1813
Complete. All names extracted

1813 to 1929
Selected names extracted

So, why can't I find any of the entries above? You can search on any name, so I've tried various spellings of Burchell and also Betty and George, none of which bring up the right entries. There were no baps for Burchell/ell/all etc despite there being 11 on Ancestry seven of which were within that 1779-1813 time frame.

So what am I doing wrong? Is there any way to search by date?

EDIT: I've just done a search on some common names and they all seem to stop in about 1780 and cut in again in the 1820s. *sigh*

You can sort the baptisms by date and then you can see there are loads for 1775, one 1776, one 1777, three 1778, two 1780, two 1781, three 1782, then it jumps to 1825. But it looks to me as though they have only extracted a few surnames that they were particularly interested in. Or is it a tiny village with only a few families in it?

That explains why when I did get a result there was a lot of name repeats on the first page!

When I clicked on sort by date I got no results. Bitton was a big parish!

I don't think they have been very clear ...."All names extracted" clearly means something different to me than to them!

Thanks anyway....
