With images.

They say:

The first phase of this project, released today, includes nearly a million parish records from North Yorkshire County Record Office, Doncaster Archives and Local Studies, East Riding Archives and Local Studies Service, Teesside Archives and Sheffield Archives and Local Studies, as well as over 3 million parish records and Bishop’s Transcripts from the Borthwick Institute for Archives (University of York), which cover the whole of Yorkshire including West Yorkshire. Further Yorkshire parish records will be released in 2015.

As the provenances of the records are defined by historical, rather than modern boundaries, areas now outside of today’s Yorkshire are also covered, such as County Durham.

Wow! Can't wait to search them. I've been doing some research in Portsmouth today. We are going to have to return very soon.

These have been updated today. I can't see anything which says which parishes have been added, but it is phase 2. Each database has a link at the side which takes you to a parish list but I think that also includes phase 1 parishes.

Unfortunately some of the links in their "Findmypast Fridays" blog post lead to the wrong databases, so here are all the (hopefully) correct links:

Whitby is there, but not under North Yorkshire, but Yorkshire as a whole. Plus images!

I thought I'd have another go at trying to find out what happened to Charles and Elizabeth Saundby of Tickhill after their marriage in 1825, but the FMP search isn't working properly now. :(

Pleased to see more (the last batch?) has been added but disappointed lots of the parishes I'm interested in aren't covered.

Kit

Jay would those parishes be on ancestry?

FMP don't have Bradford but ancestry does.

It would be nice if they were all in one place though.

I have read a few times that this was the second phase of uploaded records and it completed the collection. However, I haven't seen FMP say this. It did say on their blog that it was second phase. But they didn't say final phase or that this completed.

Someone on the Sheffield Indexers posted that FMP had imaged the Walkley parish records but they do not yet appear online.

I thought phase 2 was in April 2015.

But the "Findmypast Fridays" blog post for the latest baptism records says that "This is the second phase of what will become a comprehensive collection of parish records covering the whole county." which seems to imply there is more to come, whereas the "Findmypast Fridays" blog posts about marriages and burials say "These latest additions from [sic] the final phase of a landmark project to bring together and publish the records of six separate Yorkshire archives." So who knows?!

No they're not covered by Ancestry Kit, I'm interested in parishes in North & East Yorkshire.

Its all very confusing isn't it Kate. I have read various stuff now in which some suggest that they are now complete, and other's that say its not. The fact that someone on the Sheffield Indexers forum has said that they have imaged the Walkley registers (he knew because he had them at the time and had to give them back because FMP wanted to image them), but Walkley doesn't yet appear on FMP. Makes me think there may be more to come in a final phase?

I'm another one confused Claire. Is it the final batch or is there more to come?!

Some of the parishes I'm interested in have only partial coverage, but I know that further/earlier years registers are deposited at one of the participating archives.

I'm guessing the project only covered CoE churches too?

BlueSavannah
12-05-16, 17:02
Yes the project was only CofE churches.

I was talking to one of the archivists at Sheffield Archives last year and they didn't seem overly impressed by what coverage each parish was going to get, if any. I think each parish church has had to give permission for the records to go online so I am also going to assume that they also indicated the start/cut off dates for each parish.

There is quite a bit of Sheffield still not online (obviously the ones I need!) but other parishes have really poor coverage that you just think, what was the point?

Claire, I understand your frustration. I am just so grateful that the Whitby records are now accessible.

BlueSavannah
12-05-16, 17:35
It is frustrating but at the same time, the Sheffield Cathedral records have been added and they've been a wealth of information for me so I can't complain too much. I've not knocked down any brick walls yet but I've certainly filled in lots of gaps :)

The email I received on Friday said:
This week's Findmypast Friday marks the completion of our exclusive Yorkshire collection with a final tranche of more than 5 million parish records, along with school & university registers and a brand new set of assorted registers and records

This means to me that they have finished with Yorkshire, unless there are other records they consider to be another collection?

kiterunner
29-06-17, 21:58
Apparently they have just been updated, with the addition of over 600,000 baptisms, over 400,000 marriages and nearly 600,000 burials, so I guess that wasn't the "completion" of their Yorkshire collection last year after all!

Janet

They've been updated again, with all the new records being from the East Riding.
