24th of the St Wilfrid's Old Boys of Haywards Heath to die in WW1.

William was the son of James F Moss, a gardener, and Elizabeth Jane Moss, and was born in Redhill in 1897. By 1911, 14 year old William was working as a groom for wealthy banker RA Bevan at Horsgate House, Cuckfield, while his parents were living at the stables of another large house, Elfinsward, in Haywards Heath (now the site of the Police Station).

William left for France on the 31st August 1915 and was killed in action at Loos on 25 Sep 1915 in France, it is not known where he is buried, but he is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.

His effects of £8 5s 4d was sent to his father on 17 March 1917 followed by a War Gratuity of £3 10s on 26 Aug 1919.
