For the record, William Eccleston was baptised on 25 February 1838 at Neston, mother Hannah, father William Eccleston. Their abode was "Nep". William senior was a Collier.

FMP have images both from the Parish Register and also from the Bishop's Transcript.

On the 1851 census Hannah is aged 42 and born in Ness (in the parish of Neston), Cheshire.

In 1841 it states William senior was not born in Cheshire, and the letters "So" seem to be written in the last column. I wondered if he was Scottish.

I haven't found a marriage yet.

There is this baptism (if you are sure of Hannah's maiden surname)

Name: Hannah Williams
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 31 Dec 1809
Baptism Place: Neston, Cheshire, England
Father: Will. Williams
Mother: Eliza'Th

Some records have them as Eccles, so this may be William's birth reg (right date and right reg district)

The image states their abode was Nest? and William Williams was a Collier.

In 1841 it states William senior was not born in Cheshire, and the letters "So" seem to be written in the last column. I wondered if he was Scottish.

I was looking at the 1841 census as well and came to the same conclusion.

The 'Where Born' column indicates the answers to the following questions:
1) If born in England or Wales, whether the person was born in country - the answers where Yes or No.
2) If not born in England, whether born in Scotland, Ireland or Foreign Parts. The usual abbreviations were S for Scotland, I for Ireland or F for Foreign country.

Therefore what looks like So (or Sc?) means he was born in Scotland.

There is a birth for a William Ecclestone in South Leith, Midlothian, on 9 July 1811 (baptised 28 July). Parents are William Ecclestone and Margaret Hill.

Doesn't help with Hannah, though!

EDIT: Looks as if Merry has cracked the case.

Cheshire BMD has the William Eccles birth, sub-district Neston, but doesn't show mother's maiden name.

On the 1851 census William Eccles senior is 48, born Lancashire St Helens.

FamilySearch has a marriage 26 Dec 1830 at St Nicholas, Liverpool, between William Eccles and Hannah Williams. If that's them then there should be a few more children before William jr.

This is the image of the marriage entry on ancestry:
Liverpool marriages (http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/2197/engl56170_283-nic-3-15_m_00154/2173265?backurl=http%3a%2f%2fsearch.ancestry.co.uk %2fcgi-bin%2fsse.dll%3fdb%3dliverpoolcoemarriages%26so%3d 2%26pcat%3dROOT_CATEGORY%26MS_AdvCB%3d1%26rank%3d1 %26new%3d1%26MSAV%3d2%26msT%3d1%26gss%3dangs-g%26gsfn%3dwil*%26gsfn_x%3dXO%26gsln%3deccles*%26g sln_x%3dXO%26msgdy%3d1830%26msgdy_x%3d1%26cpxt%3d1 %26catBucket%3dr%26uidh%3dvm5%26cp%3d11%26mssng0%3 dhan*%26mssng0_x%3d1&ssrc=&backlabel=ReturnSearchResults)
but it doesn't seem to help much. William Eccles of this parish labourer and Hannah Williams of this parish spinster, witnesses Maria Evans Jones and George Parry.

Then there are some baptisms which may or may not be the same family, all with parents William and Hannah (I have included William Eccleston so we can easily see where his baptism fits in the sequence):
Mary Eccles 25 Sep 1831 West Kirby, Cheshire
Elizabeth Eccles 25 Aug 1833 Neston, Cheshire
Ellen Eccles 29 Sep 1833 West Kirby, Cheshire
Mary Eccles 27 Dec 1835 Neston, Cheshire
(William Eccleston 25 Feb 1838 Neston, Cheshire)
Alice Eccles 14 Apr 1838 Hoose, Cheshire
Maria Eccles 4 Jul 1841 Hoose, Cheshire

It looks to me as though there are at least two different couples called William and Hannah here, and it is not clear that the couple who got married in Liverpool in 1830 are the parents of William Eccleston. I think your best bet would be to get his birth certificate and see what the mother's maiden name is.
