Jesse K Hillyear was the youngest surviving son of Jesse K Hillier senr and his wife Josephine nee Scott. He was born in 1891 in Brighton, Sussex, but was brought up mainly in Southampton where his family moved when he was a young child.

Jesse joined the Hampshire Regiment, in 1915 (Private 22590).

He was killed on 4th October 1917 (the same day as Charles Buckle who I posted about earlier) near Langemark in Belgium. Initially he was buried in a small temporary cemetery alongside eleven other soldiers (four named and seven unnamed) who had all died in the same month. In August 1919 these soldiers bodies were reinterred at Cement House cemetery, Langemark, Belgium (Grave Reference:VI. E. 29)

Hi Merry,

Jesse Hillyear was my great uncle and there are a couple of corrections I would like to make.
Jesse was born in 1891 and he enlisted in 1915.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks Dave. 1895 was a typo - I have his dob as 13 Jan 1891 on my tree.

I've made the corrections here.
