Goes up to 2013 for the Republic of Ireland and up to 1921 for Northern Ireland. It seems that births (for the Republic) go up to 1995, as far as I have been able to make out from trying it out.

When you begin your search session you will need to give your name, and then you have to complete a "Capcha" test (this is to make sure that you are not a "bot" but an actual person.)

Some of the index entries that you get in your results have a "Group Registration ID" rather than volume and page. Presumably this Group Registration ID can be used to order a certificate from the GRO Ireland.

The marriage results show spouse's name for recent years, but not for older marriages. I'm not sure at what date this changes yet. And you can search for births using mother's maiden name - just put it in the surname box (with or without the father's surname). But again, the mother's maiden name doesn't seem to be available for older records. I guess it just depends on what was on the printed index for that year.

I am quite concerned to see that the site gives the exact date of birth, even for people born in 1995. Together with their mother's maiden name. Hopefully these are not used as banking security checks in Ireland? (Yes, I realise that MMN is on the online indexes for England and Wales too, but not the exact date of birth.)

Will this index ever get restored after it was pulled?

I think they're still working on a replacement, Maggie.

I'm hoping they're going to them back up but doubt if there will so much information online again.

The indexes are back online:
http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/
(Click on the "Civil Records" tab.)

I think the first box which comes up is quite confusing - you are supposed to type your own name in that one, to say you are complying with the terms and conditions, and then in the next box that comes up, you type in the name you are searching for. Then comes the "Capcha" test.

The site information says that they now have the following indexes online:

The indexes to Births over 100 years old, the indexes to Marriages over 75 years old and the indexes to Deaths over 50 years old.

Is it working for you? I've tried putting in my name and ticking the T&C box, but I just get an error message. I've tried 3 different browsers, but it makes no difference.

I just got "The requested resource (/churchrecords/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp) is not available."

Seems to be broken. :(

Ah, I managed to get it to work by going in via the main Irish Genealogy site and clicking on the "Civil Records" tab, so try that:
http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

I think there may be a problem with the link I posted before, so I will go back and put in the new link in my previous post.

That worked, thanks. Unfortunately, the person I was looking for still doesn't seem to have died!!

The PRs on the site only cover a very few areas, though.
