I am looking at a copy of a parish register I downloaded from FMP for a marriage in Cheshire.

In the little blank spot at the bottom of the section, next to where the witnesses sign in very large letters is the word Visitation.

What does that mean? The vicar is the same for the other marriages on the page.

It usually means that the bishop visited the area and they gave him a copy of the records up to that point.

Thanks Kate. That means I can take the record as it stands and not worry what implications there may or may not be. :)
