Frances Salloway problem

I have Frances Salloway marries William Raworth in Lichfield, Staffordshire 1858. Sep qtr 6b 417

I have stuff after that, trying to find Frances' ancestry.

1851 census she's a servant

HO107; Piece: 2015; Folio: 128; Page: 30

1841 she's here

HO107; Piece: 976; Folio: 35; Page: 10

'parents' are Benjamin Salloway aged 60 and Elizabeth aged 50

I'm inclined to think grandparents BUT

Family Search and FreeReg have the baptism of a FRANCIS Salloway A BOY baptised 1st July 1832 to Benjamin Salloway and Elizabeth.

I'm confused.

In 1851 Benjamin and Elizabeth are aged 64 and 62, so they may both have been in their early 40s when Frances was born. I expect the gender thing was either a transcription error or the vicar making a mistake when writing up his baptism records. (Unless Frances was a baby born with some sort of genitalia malformation)

Sometimes transcribers make up a gender based on the given name, so it could possibly be that the original register says Francis and doesn't state son or daughter but the transcribers guessed.

I haven't checked for any other children yet. Only discovered her this afternoon. I had been following the wrong line, Raworth, then realised that Samuel Vincent Raworth on the census was actually registered as Samuel Vincent Solloway (transcription error maybe).

I would think the name has been spelt or read as Francis, and the sex deduced from that.

Do they make assumptions on FreeREG? Don't most vicars include 'son of' or 'dau of' in the column headed 'Child's Christian Name'?

Info on FreeReg comes from all sorts of sources: you often have two or three versions of the same event, taken from different transcriptions.

The Rose registers don't ask for the sex of the child. Some vicars provide it (and all sorts of extra info) but most don't.

I can't find any on my tree that don't! My ancestors must have chosen wisely!!
