Hi, Hoping for a 2nd pair of eyes to look for Walter Winfield and family on the 1901 census.

Walter should be aged 50 (born Feb 1851 in Sheffield). Wife was Mary Ann and they had a number of children which included Clarissa born 1892, Frederick born 1896, Albert born 1890, Blanche born 1886. They were in Ecclesall Bierlow near Sheffield in 1891 and 1911. They should be there in 1901 but I just cant find them :(

They are in Huddersfield. 20 Back North Gate. I'm on my tablet so can't post the link.

Walter
Mary A
Florence E
Charles W M
Frederick.

Frederick was born in Huddersfield.
The others were born in Huntingdonshire.

No Clarissa.
Piece number 4104
Folio number 121
Page number 13

Seeing the details it might not be your family. Will keep looking.

Hi Elizabeth,

That's not the right family. All the family were born in Sheffield. They didn't have a child called Florence and all the ages are wrong, as is the occupation for Walter :(

I just edited my post, Claire, as I came to the same conclusion.

Walter is named in a trade directory in 1905 at 85 Sherrington Street, Ecclesall Bierlow but he isn't there in 1901 :(

There is an online tree on Ancestry which doesn't have them in 1901 either. Could they be travelling?
I see Walter was a merchant.

It is certainly possible that they are travelling as i've just rechecked that 1901 trade directory and he is listed as a Commercial Traveller. He was a Hardware Merchant on the 1911 census and he was a Greengrocer on the 1891. 1881 he was a Master Carter. Just a few occupation changes.
