This is the Wicks family plus Mary in 1881, Nell, not sure if you already have this?

I'd just found the 1881 census before you posted, KR, but thanks or the wedding. I couldn't see it on Ancestry. I keep forgetting about FreeBMD.

I'm puzzled about Mary Searl - she must have remarried after William Barnes' death. This family are going to be a headache. The census is AWFUL, terrible handwriting!

Thanks as ever for your help.

And this is Mary and Britannia in 1871 (surname Searle) but no Thirza:

Mary is wife to a John Searle born Hertford.

There's an amendment to Britannia (Br Tanner) which gives info. Curiously, Mary Searle appears in 1891 and 1901 with her widowed son-in-law John and is recorded as Mary Barnes.

Our trees will meet up sooner or later, Nell, though not with this branch. I have Rayners born in Glandford, (there have always been Rayners in the area, m'boy - said Basil Couzens Hardy to one of Mum's cousins) but we were incomers and those Rayners were "the other" Rayners.

Britannia is a good Norfolk name.

OOOhhh!

Oddly enough, I have 2 other "cousins" through genealogy and they are also in my Norfolk branch.

This is the only Britannia I've come across. Her grandfather, Mark Barnes of Langham, is my 3 x gt grandfather.
