My 3xg-grandfather was burgled in 1817. There were three man involved, one was imprisoned, one was transported and the man who organised the other two was sentenced to death all for several crimes committed over a period of a few days.
John Scare was hanged in Cambridge 5th April 1817. He had lived his whole life in Whittlesford, about six miles away and this is where the burglaries took place.
There is an entry in the NBI for John Scare aged 20. it doesn't have an exact date, but none of the records included in the NBI from the Cambridgeshire Family History Society do.
is it likely he was buried at Whittlesford, or might it be that the vicar just made a note about his demise?
