Please can anyone find this marriage:
William Battell (and variant spellings for the surname)
Sara(h) Huckle (easily mistranscribed)
I would have expected their marriage to have taken place in Hertfordshire.
The first child I have for them was baptised in 1640 at St Mary, Hitchin, Herts..
I have seen mention that they married in 1639, but that may be a guess.
Sarah's father was Thomas Huckle. She was baptised in 1621.
They are OH's 9x-great-grandparents.

It's on Hertfordshire Names Online (in the Marriages & Marriage Licences), Elizabeth:
Guliemus Battle / Sarah Huckle, 6 Aug 1639. There are two entries; one says Hitchin St Mary and the other says Hitchin Minsden Chapel.
I found this on Herts Marriages & Marriage Licences (1538 - 1922)
Guliemus Battle
Sarah Huckle
Hitchin St Mary
6 Aug 1639

Kate, many thanks. I have been using this all day but it hasn't popped up at all. Very weird. In fact, I haven't got much for the Huckle family at all.
It is exactly where it should be, but I haven't found it in the registers yet. Perhaps because I was searching for William.
I have a HUGE tree for this family. I started with OH's 3x-great-grandmother just a few months ago, and now I have gone back as far as 11x-great-grandparents for some of the lines. The odd thing is, they lived just 15 minutes' drive from where we now live!
When I was at the Hertfordshire Archives on Friday, I spied a huge book on the Battell/Bataille family, so I photocopied the pages on the Herts. branch. I have spent the past two days correcting the trees, which were compiled pre-internet, mainly from wills and then backed up by parish records.
Many thanks, Kate, again.

Hmm, it's not in the register for St Mary's, Hitchin:

Perhaps Hitchin Minsden Chapel had a separate book?

Probably, Merry, and it's not on FMP!
Another for my to do list when I go back to Hertford.

Perhaps William and Sarah were buried there too, as I can't find their burials at present.
Duh! William (I had already recorded) was buried in 1643 so there was a delay in the probate.
Sarah Battayle (sic) married John Shilston in Ippolits in 1658. They produce a son, John, who is baptised at Welwyn, but after that I am still searching for them.

There is also a daughter Marye baptised 11 Oct 1661 at Welwyn (on FamilySearch.)
FMP has some John Shilston burials at Bishop's Hatfield, Herts, in 1683 and 1685.

Thanks, Kate. I had seen the Hatfield burials but not the extra baptism.
I have been doing so much on the Battell, Prentice and Hill families since Friday that I think my brain closed down last night!
