I have William Fearn in 1871

RG10; Piece: 2900; Folio: 19; Page: 29

He is aged 23 born Gresley, Derbyshire
wife Mary age 30 born Chesterfield
John W aged 3 born Gresley
Mary Ann aged 1 born Gresley

He then turns up in 1901 as a widower and an invalid and living with his mother at 47 Coppice Side, Church Gresley, Derbyshire RG13; Piece: 2638; Folio: 11; Page: 14

Any references to Swadlincote could be them as it's near enough the same place.

I can't see him or the family in 1881 and 1891

I think this is the family in 1881, listed as Hearne:

This may be them in 1891.

EDIT: Seems we have both gone for the same family, Mary.

Well done, I hadn't found them in 1891 yet. I think the enumerator's accidentally switched William and Mary's birthplaces in 1891.

I think this may be Mary's death; she seems to have knocked off a few years in 1891:

Thank you both.

I now have a horrible feeling I'm researching the wrong family.

I need them to have a son John W born in 1868. I have found a burial

This marriage is correct as I have the son's birth cert

http://www.southderbyshirebdm.co.uk/marriagedetails.asp?Id=7166

The couple you both found have a son John in 1891 aged 10

I think this is the one I should have

RG10; Piece: 2901; Folio: 56; Page: 14

Because in 1891 his father is a brewers labourer like on the marriage

This is that family in 1881, Marg, but they don't have a John with them. They do have a Mary age 11, which fits with the 1871, but her birthplace says Staffs Orgreave.

Edit - ah, looking at the link you posted to the burial, they aren't supposed to have a John with them in 1881, is that right?

I've found the correct John in 1881. The family who had the burial at aged 6 are the wrong family.
