Well done ancestry! I have Edmund Cox born in Dundry Somerset in 1880. In 1881 and 1891 he is with his parents George Henry Cox and Elizabeth Sophia Crayford. He then disappears. Nothing strange about that. I am used to it. However ancestry have found his attestation papers to join the Canadian expeditionary force in Esquimalt British Colombia. He gives his sister as next as kin which implies he was unmarried.

I wonder if anyone can find out any thing else about him. He gives his occupation as bricklayer.

The Canadian army service papers are due to go online over the next year or two, and I think they are doing them alphabetically, so Cox should be fairly near the beginning.

Here he is sailing from Liverpool to Montreal in 1926 (first one on the page):

Let me know if you don't have access to the image and I will transcribe it.

Also him leaving Liverpool:

Thank you very much. The census says he came to Canada in 1906. It would make life a lot easier if they stayed put. I can see the images. It is good that it says Dundry. It is a very small village so it is definitely him. Gosh did not theyhave neat writing?

Anne, on that same attestation paper, to the question "Are you married?" he answers "No". So as of 21 March 1916 he was single.

Indeed, I was always jealous of my mother's and my aunt's handwriting. It was really important in those days. My mother was born in 1904 and she had a lovely script well into the mid-1990s, until she couldn't really see well enough to be precise.
