that would be lovely:) It was e-mailed to me, so I don't have the original. I am told that it is Thomas Wolstencroft Rathbone, born 1819, and one of his wives. And does anyone have any idea of a date, please ? Are they in mourning wear?

Thank you

I have another...no idea why part of it seems to have been cut off. I presume it is Thomas again...with the same lady on the right (?)

Thank you again Wendy :) I've no idea how you found the rest of the lady on the left!

They look pretty well-heeled for a boot-maker and his wife (a bonnet-maker).

Does anyone have any idea of dates please?

Thank you

Joan

There's a George Yates who is a carpenter/joiner up to the 1861 census and then a photographer from the 1871 to the 1901 census, living in Ecclesall Bierlow, which is virtually Sheffield! Only thing is he is plain George not George V. However, he and his parents and probably other family are in the Sheffield area in 1851 when a child called George Verdon Yates was born. Unfortunately George Verdon Yates doesn't appear on any census (b Q4 1851 d 1853) to see how he fitted in, but maybe George the photographer pinched his initial if it was a family name?

None of which helps date your photos! lol

It's def the same George as he is George V Yates on an 1879 trade directory at the same addy as the 1881 census entry.

I'm hopeless at dates, but I'd think early 1880s for the first and mid 1890s to 1900 for the second. Do you know who the girl is?

Thanks Merry - that would fit as the family lived in Eccleshall Bierlow most of their lives. :)

Thanks Phoenix. I don't know who the girl is. The couple had many children, but I am wondering whether it could possibly have been their youngest daughter who was born in 1876, and who is in the photo on this thread -
