My 4xG uncle, Levi Millard, was sentenced to 7 years transportation to Tasmania in January 1831 for his part in the Swing Riots. I have found records of his transportation voyage aboard the 'Eliza' in February 1831.
I have also found, on Ancestry, various Convict Muster records and a record of his pardon and ticket of leave in 1840.

Would there be any record of when he returned, if indeed he did? If so, where could I find it please?

Levi Millard, born 24 July 1803 in Gussage St Michael, Dorset. Parents Henry & Mary (nee Mullins) Millard. He was baptised at Gussage St Michael on 7 Aug 1803.

I don't think so but maybe someone else will know of something. There are some Tasmania records on FamilySearch that you have to browse through as they haven't been indexed yet; you could try looking through those to see if you can find his death there:

Tasmania Civil Registration (https://familysearch.org/search/collection/2125029)
Tasmania Miscellaneous Records (https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1935075)

His description is here: Description (http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_viewer.htm?CON18-1-6,300,36,L,80)

I don't know what happens to him though.

He got his certificate of freedom in 1842.

Can't find anything else about him yet.

Yes Oct 1842 I think it said. I'd doubt that he returned to the Uk but he could have changed his name.

He could have left Tassie though.

Don't suppose anyone has access to Tassie BDM?

A lot of those who obtained their ticket of freedom left Tasmania and went to the newly established settlement of Melbourne, or Port Philip. Polite Society of Van Dieman's Land was not welcoming of ex-convicts, so they left if they could.

Tassie BDMS are only available in the Pioneer Database

Are they not the Civil Registration records that you can browse on FamilySearch?
(see post #2)

There are but I have no idea when or where to look.

What I want in the BDM indexes like NSW has them online. Sadly there is software that has it all, but it is $200 odd. If someone could access that it would be a lot quicker to determine if he married and/or died in Tasmania.

Just searched NSW BDM and there were no results in the deaths.

There were no results at all for Vic BDM.

Thanks to Libby, Julie and Di and also Kate & Toni again for your input and comments.

I've been out at Ikea all day :D and I'm out again this evening so I'll have a good look at all your suggestions later.

Thank you all again.

It may be worth considering looking for him as Levi Miller in case his name was changed/misheard or mistranscribed.

It is a bonus him having a more unusual christian name.
