View Full Version : Can I find out any more?

I believe that my late grandmother, who was living in Hove at the time, contacted her local MP and asked him to ask questions in the House of Commons about the abduction of her daughter who was taken to live in Germany.

This would have been in the 1930's/early 1940's.

I am told (from a few sources) that her MP did raise questions (orally) in the House of Commons, and that there was a report of them in the Daily Sketch (?).

I have spent hours looking at http://hansard.millbanksystems.com/ and cannot find anything. I have also searched local newspapers at the Records Office.

Does anyone else have any ideas where I could look, please? I'd love to know what was asked, and what the response was.

Thank you

Joan

Hansard is the obvious place for it to be recorded, since it's a verbatim record of proceedings.

Thanks UJ... That's why I was so delighted when the archives went on line - but I simply cannot find anything on the site...maybe it's another family myth - or maybe the questions have been omitted because they involved a minor  - although I came across other questions regarding minors - or maybe they were omitted because they named someone being investigated the Security Services

Do you know the name of the MP? If not, I suppose you could find it out. Perhaps it would be worth searching the site for any mention of his name around the right period, rather than the case itself?

Thank you Ann - there is a section of the site where you can find out the names of MPs for different constituencies for specific years... I've found them, and gone through all their contributions - but drawn a blank
