Hi,

I was just wondering if there are any bmd records online at all for South Africa? My grandfather's brother emigrated there in about the 1950s and he's a bit of a mystery after that. I have been led to believe he died there in 1985.

I am thinking that there sadly isn't any online but just wanted to check in case I am wrong :)

There was a site called Ancestry24 which had South African records, but it closed down. It has been acquired by ancestry, and they are working on adding the records to their site but I don't think they have given a date when they will be available.

I don't know whether they will have records as recent as what you are looking for, though.

Many thanks for that link Kite. I hadn't heard of that before but saved the link now. Hoping those records might appear sometime in the near future.

It's likely that the stuff I would hope to see is probably too recent but I live in hope :)

Also there are some records on FamilySearch though some of them are not indexed yet:
