I did not know anything about John Chaplin when it was his turn, but he turned out to be a fascinating chap. Some might recall my threads about the Chaplins of Wokingham.

Name - "official" name and what they were known as

not known possibly Wokingham Berkshire

Date and place of baptism - if applicable
If baptised in Wokingham, either 7 May 1722 to Edward and Mary, or 17 May 1722 to John or Ann, or maybe William, as he only had one son, named William.

Details of each of his or her marriages - if any

married Dorothy Harrison at St George, Mayfair, Westminster in London in 1748. She died without children in 1763
then married Hannah Bower, 14 Feb 1764 at St Martins in the Fields, Westminster.

1752-1772, the Rose Inn Wokingham
1772-1787 The New Rose Inn, Peach Street, Wokingham

John leased the Rose Inn from "Fair Molly Mogg" subject of the poem by Pope, Gay and Swift, and her sister Sally. In 1772, their descendents put up the rent, so John purchased a building in Peach St and named it the New Rose. After his death in 1787, Hannah ran the Inn until she purchased the Rose Inn and closed the New Rose.

His will names his brother James Chaplin and "sister" as Anna Chaplin, also his children William and Elizabeth Mary. He requested to be buried in the aisle of All Saints Wokingham with his late wife Dorothy and asked that current wife Hannah be also buried there if she was agreeable.
