I think I've found the birth and parents of my 5g grandfather in India Office Records.

Only problem is that his father was in the 66th regiment and was discharged in 1827 so I don't know how to trace him. But I will look into it later.

My 5gg also has a brother.

As an aside the 66th regiment was sent to St Helena to guard Napolean. It is also where my 5gg was born, if what I found is mine.

I found discharge papers for a couple of men, I think they were on TNA site. They included a physical description so that the papers could not be used by anyone else.
When I double checked just now, its says the record is also on FMP.

I found that too Marquette. I got the FMP records. They just don't mention any family.

Just checked it is my 3g and 4g grandfathers. Got my lines mixed up.

So if I am correct then my 3g grandfather was born in St Helena, his father had a stroke and was discharged in Dublin and my 3g grandfather somehow ended up in India.

I have a sinking feeling he was from Ireland so my research wont get much further back.
