I've just verified on the India Office Records that a 2g aunt died and that the register said the cause of death was 'gun shot wound in the head'.

From that statement is there any way to determine if it was an accident, murder or suicide?

She was buried in a church so I feel it is not suicide.

If you have access to the Times of India Historical Archive there could be some info in there? Apparently it covers 1838 onwards. I do so wish I had access! But it seems you have to be a library or academic institution to subscribe, and as far as I know, no library near me has it.

Toni, do you have a card for the State Library of New South Wales, or can you get one?

FIBIS: Subscription websites-online newspapers, journals and directories (http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php/Subscription_websites-online_newspapers,_journals_and_directories)

Proquest Historical Newspapers.2C Times of India.E2.80.941838-2001 option (http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php/Subscription_websites-online_newspapers,_journals_and_directories#Proque st_Historical_Newspapers.2C_Times_of_India.E2.80.9 41838-2001_option)

That last link says:

"One library currently known to have this option available for cardholders to log in remotely on their own computers, is the State Library of N.S.W. From the Home page, select “eresources”, then “Browse databases”, then Browse then “Find database”. Type “Proquest Historical Newspapers” (with inverted commas) and click on the resultant link. You will then need to log in. After this, select “News and Newspapers”, and from the drop down menu, select “the Times of India”."

Kate I think I have tried looking before but there was nothing. I double checked what articles I had from the paper before I posted. I will recheck later though as there may have been more added.

Thanks Janet I do have access to the library.

Kate if you know who you are looking for I can search for you in a few days, after I've done with the India Office Records.
