Got an email from ancestry.com today. Haven't been through all the threads today yet, but I didn't spot anything about this on here:

January 2014 Update

INSIDE SCOOP

We're ringing in the New Year with New York

We won't be dropping a lighted ball at Ancestry.com headquarters, but we are dropping 7 new New York collections onto the site, along with an updated New York landing page and our latest state research guide on…New York.

Our downloadable state research guides offer a crash course on state history, records particular to the state, record repositories, collections on Ancestry.com, and other state resources to help you bring your research closer to home. If you haven’t seen your state yet, it’s coming. And if you have NY ancestors, the wait is over. Check out the new collections and our New York state guide.

I can only see 5 new New York databases at the moment and they are 1855 and 1875 state censuses, and New York City BMD indexes covering the last few decades of the 19th century and first few of the 20th, except for the birth index which only goes up to 1909. If you find a birth index entry it will give name, date of birth, birthplace, and certificate number, and there is a button to click to order the certificate. The marriage index is somewhat better as it shows who married whom, where and when. And the death index has name, date of death, age at death / approx. birth year, place of death and certificate number. You can also order the marriage and death certificates.

These are the links:
New York City birth index (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=9089)
New York City marriage index (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=9105)
New York City death index (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=9131)
1855 New York State Census (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=7181)
1875 New York State Census (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=7250)

Do you have any links for the "landing" page and state research guide, please, Janet? I can't see anything about it on ancestry.com.

Thanks, Janet. The Naturalization Papers (840 records - can that be right?!) and Alien Depositions of Intent went live in mid-December, along with 5 other New York databases (not the BMD indexes and censuses, which have just gone live.)

By the way, it says the BMD indexes are free for everyone, so you should be able to view them even without a sub.
