West Yorkshire Electoral Registers 1840-1962 (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=3057)
Surrey Electoral Registers 1914-1945 (http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=4829)

The Surrey database is just the part of Surrey that is not included in Greater London as ancestry already has London electoral registers online.

Found a couple but will have to wait as I'm on my tablet.

It's always the same, something i'm interested in is released after my sub runs out!

*sigh* West Yorkshire again :( Maybe one day Ancestry will add something for South Yorkshire

I have to tell you that the Surrey electoral registers are full of mistakes. My grandfather's third name of Jeffcoat is mistranscribed several times as as Teggcoat and his house as Lynchmore or worse instead of Lynchmere.

The information about the Surrey electoral registers says that "Note: This index was created using text recognition software. Records were not transcribed."

That explains it, Kate.

Can anyone find Croydon?

I only moved here in 1970, after all the boundary changes.

Croydon was a borough from the late 1800s and I can't see the people I expected to find.

I thought Croydon would be included in London rather than Surrey, but the London electoral rolls only seem to cover Croydon from the 1960's. But at least part of Croydon is in the Surrey database under "Eastern". Will look some more later.

Yes, it looks as though it is only a little bit of Croydon that was included in the East Surrey constituency from 1918, so I wonder whether they are going to digitise the rest of the Croydon e rolls.

Our Borough status meant, I think, that we were separate from Surrey (electoral rolls are in the Research Room at Croydon, along with Burgess Rolls for the local elections)

It was only in 1965 that we became part of Greater London so LMA only have details from the transitional period.

I ought to know, but cannot remember, whether some of the other outer boroughs will be similarly absent.

Wow, one might call it an embarrassment of riches. Now if only I had the time to really look. This needs to be mined!

Thank you, Kite.

Found my grandmother and two uncles in 1945 in Selsdon - they'd evacuated from Stoke Newington during the war. One of my uncles is recorded as "Jenel" yet another version of "Jeuel" (named after his father, my grandfather) but he was always known to me as Uncle George, after his 2nd name.

Looks as though I may need to renew my sub, or at least plan a trip to the library.

My maternal Grandmother's maiden name is unique to my family. Everyone with the surname is related to each other. Just typed it in and looks as though there are 402 entries in the West Yorkshire Electoral Registers.
Imagine that would keep me busy for a while!

400 of them are in the Parliamentary Division of Normanton and the other two are in Shipley. :)

You must have a very good memory Merry to remember the surname :D

I would have expected them all to be in Normanton Division, perhaps with a few drifting into parts of South Leeds, but now you've got me wondering who it is in Shipley!

Edit to add: just typed Shipley into the keywords and it brought up two entries (same person and same year). I have absolutely no idea who she is!

Haha! Very intuitive Merry and lucky that I filled one in for that branch as I have missed quite a few of them with one thing and another.

Thanks for the PM - got all excited that I may have a new line to discover but no such luck! Quite a strange way for them to index the address as a name. Thanks again.

They aren't indexed by human beings, just OCRd, so mistakes like that often occur.
