Ordered one from the GRO last week, first time in ages and the despatch date is estimated at the 12th Dec - are they really taking that long these days?

Oooh what a long time to have to wait when, no doubt, you wuld like to have the info yesterday!

I've not ordered a certificate for ages, so I'm afraid I don't know the normal current waiting time.

I remember when they used to come in three or four days! I've found out that a grandmother (who I never knew) died a few years ago so really want to get my hands on the thing :/

I ordered one from Scotland - but needed it urgently so had to pay £30 - it arrived next day!!!

Then posted it to USA and was told 5-8 working days - it took 3 days.

I was too tight to pay the extra :-) I'm just hoping it comes earlier...

I wonder if it's so long because I didn't know the ref - I know the date of death but as it was 2009 I couldn't look up the details

Sounds likely, Asa.

When I have ordered certs with reference numbers they have arrived within a week, but whenever I have ordered certs without a reference number taken up to 2weeks to arrived.

Thanks Zoe. I've never ordered one without a ref before so that must be what it is

I am hoping that the dates are pessimistic. I have just ordered a certificate to form part of a talk I'm doing. It says 5 Dec despatch, but our post is not reliable at the moment.

Wasn't pessimistic for me, Phoenix - arrived today.
