Just taken a sub to FMP but not having much luck with census searches so thought I'd try this one, I should say this chap may not be on the '41 but a laptop problem meant I lost a bit of info and not sure if this one was ever in my collection.

He would be living in Lincoln, wife Ann happens to be first name on a page (had that for ages via Ancestry) so he may be on the previous image but I can't find her on FMP either. I'm pretty sure I had it as his dob was 1800 in the 41 but the '51 suggested a dob in the late 1780's.

1851 John Chambers aged 68, Union Workhouse, Lincoln for reference.

Can you post some more details of Ann's entry in the 1841 please, Glen?

Yes, looking at the family on ancestry, John is the final entry on the previous page, age given as 35, occupation labourer, born in county. The address is Flaxen Gate. I'll have a go at FMP but I haven't got a sub at the moment. The refs on ancestry are piece 651, book 21, folio 22, page 8, but I don't know if they will be the same on FMP.

If you search the 1841 on FMP for John Chambers, year of birth 1806, living Lincoln, only one entry comes up. Is it the right one, Glen?

He's 63, not 68, on the 1851 census, by the way. Bricklayer's labourer born Lincs, Tattersall, with sons Henry 19 and George 9 and daughter Louisa 11, all born Lincoln City. Nice of them to put in the relationships as you don't usually find those in a workhouse entry.

I can get two results, one born 1801 and the 1806, though the results say living in Lincoln both are villages outside of the city, the 1806 image doesn't even have anyone by the name of Chambers that I can see.

Ref on the 1806 birth is HO107 piece 644 folio 20/4 page 2
I tried searching for Ann and then each of the children but nothing is coming up for any of them.

The census refs from ancestry don't find anything on FMP, but if you do an address search for Flaxen Gate, Lincoln, it comes up with two results. Is either of them the right one?

I don't think FMP has the page. I can't be 100% certain as I don't have a sub at the moment either, but I tried searching for Luke Ancliffe (various spellings) 30 who appears on the same page as John Chambers (the chap on the preceding page to the rest of his family) and Luke does not appear on the FMP 1841 indexes.

So age 35 in 1841 in county, aged 63 in 1851 b Tattershall.

Three death entries pre '61 so no age indicated and no probate that I've ever found to date.

Found him in the '51 but had to drop any reference to year of birth for some reason as FMP spits the dummy otherwise!

I agree with Merry that they are not on FMP, because they don't seem to come up on FamilySearch either and FamilySearch used FMP's images to do their indexing.

Maybe Glen is typing Lincolnshire into the "Place of residence" box instead of selecting it from the County menu?

I'm really not liking FMP at all, I just tried the same search criteria again and got 4 hits, then repeated the search again and got 0 once more. I feel a few screengrabs and an e=mail of complaint may be in order though I fear they would just extend my membership when a refund is what I'd be looking for.

Odd that when linking from familysearch it seems to work everytime but I don't want to trawl through that site to link to FMP images. Not a happy bunny after the success of yesterday.
