Henry Robinson was born c1864 Pudsey, Bradford, Yorkshire. Son of Jonathan and Mary Robinson.

Can anyone help please.

Have him in the 1871, 1881 and 1891 census's with his parents.

RG10; Piece: 4509; Folio: 55; Page: 16; GSU roll: 848468.

RG11; Piece: 4484; Folio: 89; Page: 10; GSU roll: 1342074.

RG12; Piece: 3658; Folio: 7; Page: 7; GSU Roll: 6098768.

He marries in 1885 but is with his parents Jonathan & Mary Robinson at Primose Hill, Pudsey in the 1891 census and not with his wife.

His parents both die before the 1901 census and the 1891 census is the last one I have for him.

.................................................. ...............................................

I have found his wife Lily in the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census's without him and she dies in 1946 as the widow of Harry Robinson. Her children are listed as the children of her employer in the 1901 census and have his surname as a middle name but are registered as Harry's children on their baptisms/birth certificates. The last child born 1901 also has same middle name but no father listed on the birth certificate.

In order to sort this out I need to know where Harry is in 1901/1911 or his death. I sent for a death certificate in 1892 for Harry Robinson age 32 a Railway Plate layer which may or may not be him as no family member registered the death but the age is out by 3/4 years and there's quite a few Henry Robinsons of the same age.

RG12; Piece: 3627; Folio: 72; Page: 27; GSU

Roll: 6098737.

RG13; Piece: 4149; Folio: 64; Page: 5.

RG14; Piece: 26845.

Would love to sort this out so any help greatly appreciated.

Was Lily's employer a bachelor/widower or was he not free to marry her?

What did Lily state about her marriage in 1911?

Sorry Merry was out today and then had to sort things out.

In 1891 census Lily is lodging with brothers, the younger one Mason is head of the house and single, the older John who says he's the father of two of her children in 1901 is married - having married in 1884 to Sarah Jane Mitchell. If correct I have Sarah living with a man in 1891 and 1901 - haven't found them in 1911.

In 1911 Lily is head of the household - says she's married but no years entered. She's had 6 children 4 of which are alive. I think she's had 7 children - 2 with husband Harry, 4 with John and 1 possibly Johns but no father's name given. The 2 with Harry died before 1891 and 1 with John died 1897.

Her two youngest children are with her and also John has now become James and is a lodger and still states he's married.

Know what you mean Merry - this has been doing my head in for years!!

I think all the 5 younger children have the same father John - not Harry but why are the 4 registered with Harry as the father but not the last born 1901. Did Harry object or had he died?

When John died in 1914 his sister registered the death not Lily!!

When the youngest child married in 1921 - there's no father on the marriage certificate (nor her birth certificate) but one of the 3 witnesses was John's neice!!!!???

Is there an address on the 1892 death cert you could check against the 1891 census? Or have you done that already!

It's 32 Prince Street, Bowling which is why I don't think that it's him. I only have ancestry so can't do a street check. Think I looked but didn't see an entry iirc.

I reckon he should be at Primrose Hill, Pudsey with his parents.!!

Would Bowling be one of these?

Prince Street Horton Bradford Yorkshire
Prince Street Tong Bradford Yorkshire

Have you got the death certificates of Henry's parents? Just wondering if Henry is the informant for either of them?

No I haven't got either death certificate only the burials which I found fairly recently. John & Mary Robinson in Yorkshire is like looking for a John Smith!!

I recall before I found the deaths looking to see who was living at Primrose Hill in the 1901 census and it was Harry's older brother Joseph and his wife Martha.

Sorry Merry - it doesn't say whether Prince St is in Horton or Tong.

I've also looked for Henry Robinsons bc1860 in the 1891 census's on ancestry - unfortunately haven't got fmp sub so can't do an address check.

Have just sent off for Henry's Mum's death certificate - it wasn't the district I expected though.

Looking at the new district there's a possible death in Leeds for Harry so have asked for a copy too.

Got to wait 20 working days though!!!
